I just finished watch “One Day”, it’s a drama romance old movie with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess on set. Focused on them, well, because it’s pretty much of a romance story of two people. The story takes very simple background, it’s about both : best friend and friend with benefit. So Emma (Anne Hathaway) was a straight, neat, good kind of girl in the movie while Dexter (Jim Sturgess) is like a cool, playful, rich kind of guy. They met at graduation day, introduced by each of their friend which is already in relationship. So at the end of the day, Emma and Dexter decide to spent the night together. It doesn’t work all romantic, instead, Emma feels awkward and almost decide to went back home while Dexter feels pity on her so they ended up having talk. A casual talk between two stranger which now become a friend.
The story goes and goes, Emma lead a life with all the straight-boring way, while Dexter beginning in more risky life but with great benefit in wealth. They keep contact, even though each of them is already had spouse.
This is remind me of another movie which is released more recent. It’s “Love, Rosie”. With different background set, let’s say, It was Rosie (Lily Collin) who had crush upon her boy best friend Alex (Sam Claffin) but she stays calm. Even after graduation day, and finally she finds out that Alex went into medical faculty while she got pregnant with other guy he date on prom and so she can not continue her life through university. They then living separately, still keep in touch, even after Alex finally get married, and also Rosie agree to marry the father of her son.
Both are telling story about two people, being best friend even after each of them are already have their own life partner. But the different is, Love Rosie have kind of happy ending because finally after some rough life story, Rosie and Alex met, both are already divorced, and it seems they started to reveal their needs of each other. The movie end. But in One Day, it’s almost the same. But the story still goes where Emma finally got pregnant over Dexter, she’s willing to tell Dexter about this good news when finally she got hit by car. And she died, and Dexter left depressed and all frustrated for several years.
Yes it’s kind of heart aching movie.
Anyway, so if anyone like this type of movie (about bestfriend become boyfriend), both are worth to watch. I haven’t found anything similar. I can’t put “Friend with benefit” or “No String Attached” similar to this kind of movie because this both were really talks about “friend with benefit”, it’s a term to use for those who got friendship along with sexual, but no heart feeling of love between them.
